APPLY FOR THE 2025 PROGRAM. ApPLIcations due MARCH 1!

The PIGS (Personal Improvement and Growth through Swine) Ambassador Program is designed for college students who are passionate about the swine industry.

Students from across the country have the opportunity to serve as industry ambassadors through the P.I.G.S. Ambassador Program. This program provides an exclusive look into the broader swine industry, extending beyond the show pig realm.

The program includes three weeks of in-person leadership training held between June and November. The lineup offers a unique blend of personal development, leadership coaching, and engaging industry tours. The program concludes with a presentation from ambassadors, offering insights into their experiences within the greater swine industry.

The 2024 PIGS Ambassadors visited Des Moines, Iowa; Chicago, Illinois; and St. Louis, Missouri. Throughout the year, a few of the tours included a meatpacking plant, a grain elevator on the Mississippi River, and the Iowa State Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, as well as the CME Group. They also spoke with numerous industry leaders to gain a deeper understanding of the swine industry's far-reaching impact.

Feedback from the 2024 Ambassadors

“I APPRECIATE THIS PROGRAM MORE THAN I CAN EXPRESS. WITHOUT IT, I WOULD LACK MUCH KNOWLEDGE OF THE COMMERCIAL PRODUCTION OF PORK, NOR WOULD I OF EVER GONE TO THE PLACES I WENT. THANK YOU TO ALL INCLUDED.”

“IF I COULD DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN I WOULD. I LOVED THIS EXPERIENCE AND I HAVE BECOME WAY MORE KNOWLEDGEABLE AND A BETTER PERSON FOR THE SWINE INDUSTRY.”

Thank you to the 2024 Pigs ambassadors!

About the national pork board

The National Pork Board is responsible for Pork Checkoff-funded research, promotion, consumer information projects, as well as communicating with pork producers and the public.

The Pork Checkoff benefits all pork producers, no matter the size of the operation. While compliance is mandatory, understanding its impact is key. The Checkoff has three primary goals: building consumer trust, driving sustainable production, and growing consumer demand.

Show pig producers can utilize resources delivered from the Pork Checkoff to implement best practices when it comes to raising pigs. This includes programs like the National Swine Reproduction Guide and Pork Quality Assurance Plus. The Checkoff also provides a united front from all pork producers when it comes to building market demand for pork consumption. All pork producers follow the standards defined through the We Care initiative, allowing for greater promotion of the pork industry.

Through a legislative national Pork Checkoff, pork producers invest $0.35 for each $100 value of hogs sold. Importers of pork products contribute a like amount, based on a formula. For information on Checkoff-funded programs, pork producers can call the Pork Checkoff Service Center at (800) 456-7675 or visit porkcheckoff.org.
